S3 Epidemiology and genetics 1 :
COVID-19 pandemic and management of diabetes in Asia LIVE Channel C
16:30~18:30 / Thursday 7 October
Chairman:Hyun Shik Son, Kang Seo Park
Overview
The COVID-19 pandemic is currently the most important global issue facing healthcare systems, and it is expected that it will still take a long time to fully overcome. Diabetes Mellitus is associated with a poor prognosis for COVID-19, and the COVID-19 pandemic is also known to negatively impact the clinical course of DM. This session will discuss the efforts of healthcare professionals to address various clinical problems related to COVID-19 in Asian patients with diabetes..

Genetics and precision medicine in diabetes: are we there yet? LIVE Channel C
09:00~11:00 / Saturday 9 October
Chairman:Kyong Soo Park, Sung-Hoon Kim
Overview
This session will cover both basic genetic research and its clinical translation in diabetes. The first two speakers will review cutting-edge science in the genetics of diabetes and cardio-metabolic traits using large-scale biobanks and uncover genetic risk factors that are specific in Asians. This will be followed by two presentations that focus on the clinical utility of the genetic findings in terms of polygenic risk scores and monogenic diabetes. We hope this session will provide insights on the promises as well as shortcomings of precision medicine in diabetes.

Prediction model for diabetes and metabolic diseases LIVE Channel C
14:30~16:30 / Saturday 9 October
Chairman:Cheol Soo Choi, Jioh Mok
Overview
For effective prevention and management of Diabetes Mellitus (DM), accurate prediction of which person will progress to DM in a population is a very important clinical issue. This session was composed based on the latest research done by major domestic researchers in the related field who are trying to develop an effective predictive model for Korean DM patients and seek clinical application.
